Growing up watching my dad race his 1962 Catalina sparked my love for Pontiacs and Racing. Two weeks before my 16th birthday I acquired a 69 Grand Prix which I still own today. I started legally racing it at 17. A couple of years later dad and I decided to build a 67 GTO strictly for racing and it’s the same car that we race today. It’s gone through a few changes over the years but has never been butchered and could easily be made back to original if wanted. Here’s a link to more info on the car: http://www.highperformancepontiac.com/shootout/0303pon_west_virginia_pontiac_shootout/index.html
After graduating high school I worked at different parts stores hoping someday to work in the machine shop. But when that didn’t happen I went back to school and obtained a degree in Tool Engineering. I enjoyed my 13 years as a Tool Engineer because it afforded me the opportunity to use my drafting skills and learn various machines, both manual and CNC. During this time I decided to enroll at a local college and take their Automotive High Performance engine machining course. Now I was able to combine my love for working with machines with my passion for building engines. At the time I did it “just for fun”, but by the time I finished the course I knew that someday I would have to have my own machine shop.
Super Stock racer Roy McKinney had been doing the machine work on engines that dad and I built for many years. After close to 30 years in the business Roy’s health caused him to make the decision to sell his equipment. After making many trips to Roy’s place and working with him using the machinery and learning some tricks of the trade, I purchased his equipment. My dream had finally become reality.
Philosophy:
I want to get to know the customer, the car, and the intended use. Then I’ll design an engine according to its application. My goal is to get the most “bang for the buck” with top priority placed on reliability. I treat every engine as if I were building it for myself. This is my passion and I know the importance of customer service before, during, and after the sale.
